English adaptation of a reflection from Être à sa place by Michaël Lallemand. The book is available in French only.

An invitation to be gentle with yourself

“To respect ourselves, we first need to know ourselves: to recognise our limits, our strengths and our vulnerabilities, and to respect them. […] This respect means welcoming where we are in this moment, with sincerity and humility.”

This passage from my book Être à sa place explores self-respect. I wrote the book for people seeking to live with a greater sense of inner alignment.

This passage invites us to be gentle with ourselves, beyond the pressure to perform and the expectations set by others.

It speaks of listening, recognising our limits, and attending to our deeper desires and needs.

Self-respect as a journey, rather than another demand

We live in a world where self-respect is often confused with the need to keep improving ourselves, to keep “working on ourselves” without pause.

Yet respecting ourselves may begin with learning to stop for a moment. It means accepting where we are today, without trying to force our way forward or turn away from our experience.

It also means:

  • Recognising the impulses that arise within us.
  • Exploring what our desires reveal about us.
  • Returning to our fundamental need for authenticity.

Words rooted in personal experience

I wrote this book from my own journey: the doubts, the experiences I have lived through and the moments of awareness along the way.

Each chapter, each word, is a sincere attempt to share a way of reconnecting with ourselves without losing ourselves in external expectations.

This personal experience also gave rise to the Être à sa place method, which invites us to return to our centre, listen to ourselves and act in alignment with who we are.

Beyond the tools and stages of the method, what I wish to share is also a quality of presence: a gentler, more honest way of seeing ourselves.
